The Midwife Foundation, Inc. (formerly the A.C.N.M Foundation) offers an array of scholarships, awards, and grants designed to support and empower aspiring individuals in their professional journeys.

Basic Midwifery Scholarships

These scholarships support student midwives enrolled in ACME-accredited programs and are designed to increase the number, quality, and diversity of certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives. Awards consider academic achievement, leadership potential, commitment to health equity, professional excellence, and financial need.

PURPOSE: The A.C.N.M. Foundation, Inc. offers the Basic Midwifery Student Scholarships to support midwifery students in covering educational expenses. The aim is to encourage and facilitate individuals in pursuing or completing their basic midwifery education, ultimately contributing to an increase in the quantity, quality, and diversity of certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives.

Several scholarships are granted annually, including those from endowed funds like the Midwives of Color-Watson Scholarship, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Health Care Scholarship, Colorado Affiliate BIPOC Scholarship, Edith B Wonnell CNM Scholarship, and the Pennsylvania 'HEAR' Scholarship. Additionally, Memorial Scholarships are awarded based on available funding.

Applicants are evaluated on criteria such as academic performance, professional achievements, intentions to advance health equity, leadership potential, and demonstrated financial need.   

AWARD AMOUNT: $3,000.00 APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 28, 2026 (at midnight EST)

 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – ALL APPLICANTS: 

  • Be enrolled as a student in good standing in an ACME-accredited or pre-accredited basic midwifery education program.
  • Have successfully completed at least one academic or clinical semester/quarter/term or clinical module.
  • Be a current member/student member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). Individuals who are not current members of ACNM may apply now and, if selected for the scholarship, must become an ACNM member before receiving their award.
  • Agree to submit an awardee report within one year if an award is received.
  • Not a previous Basic Midwifery Student Scholarship awardee; previous awardees are not eligible.

COMPLETE APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Part 2 –  Educational and Professional Background. 2a - Professional Background --> 2b - Past and Present Educational Background; 2c - Recommendation Form from a midwifery program faculty or preceptor. The form is enclosed with instructions within your application.           
  • Part 3 – Statement of Career Goals and Plans
  • Part 4 – Professional Leadership
  • Part 5 – Community Health Equity Plans
  • Part 6 – Primary Midwifery Area of Interest
  • Part 7 – Financial Information
  • Part 8 – Midwifery Program Verification Form from the  Midwifery Education Program Director or Faculty  Member. The form is enclosed with instructions within your application.
